Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Noone ever expects to hear that their child is dying.  It is nothing less than devastating.  You don't know where to turn and all we wanted to do was help Sadie to have the best life she could and to ensure she did not suffer.  That's where Francis House came in.

We brought Sadie home from hospital with a diagnosis of Edwards Syndrome and a very limited life expectancy that she had already out-lived.  We were told she could just die at any time.  So being alone with Sadie each day and trying to get out and about with her as a new mummy was terrifying as well as lovely.

As Sadie grew more uncomfortable, Drew and I were administering drugs such as morphine to our little girl and we became experts at caring for her 24/7.  We were also feeding her via a nasal gastric tube again. As this all grew harder we drew on help from Francis House for respite and support. They were truly phenomenal - giving our entire family love and care. We grew to know and love the carers there and they became like a second family and a safe haven whenever Sadie's condition became challenging.

When the time came that Sadie's breathing worsened, we called Francis House and took Sadie to stay there as a family.  They helped us through Sadie's final hours and in the days after her death with such tenderness and making the painful tasks as easy as possible.

They continue to offer us support and they always hold the most special place in our hearts.

Sadly, many other families have, are and will experience similar tragic times and Francis House are vital in offering support, care and respite as well as helping families to make te very best of their child's life.
