Story
Over the years I have supported various charities Including Comic Relief, MDF, British Heart Foundation, HFT, Wish Upon Star, NSPCC and Children in Need. This year I am supporting one of the fantastic charities that we at Debenhams support - Help for Heroes!
The is the fifth year running, Debenhams is supporting Help for Heroes by entering a team in the Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2019 – the charity’s flagship fundraising challenge, covering up to 350 miles over five days of cycling.
Friends, colleagues, business partners, connections...I need your help to support my passion and cycling legs to raise a minimum of £3,000 as a rider. As a group we aim for even more, last year raising over £100k. Just like with training, an early start and plenty of commitment on donations will spur both myself and the wider team on and this has been shown previously to work for everyone.
The event takes place 9 - 15 June 2019 and commemorates the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Setting off from Sainte-Mère-Église near Cherbourg, we will stop at Omaha, Gold and Juno beaches before heading inland to visit Pegasus Bridge – site of the first glider landings just after midnight on 6 June 1944, and key to the success of the whole operation. From Caen the route then follows the path of the allied advance right through to Paris, ending with an evening celebration and a lifetime of memories. The history will be brought to life around us by expert battlefield historians, sharing their experiences of those who were there. We will also have time to reflect at daily ceremonies and to pay tribute to the memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I think it will be a privilege and a real honour.
