Story

I am raising funds for the animal rescue and treatment centre in Kathmandu (KATs), the city which is set in the heart of the Himalayas, this is a charity I worked with very closely when on my first medical elective in Asia and whom i still have close ties to currently. There are more than 20,000 dogs live on the streets of Kathmandu, and many suffer from starvation, infected open sores, mange, and other injuries and illnesses.

When I first arrived in Kathmandu I was shock by the conditions in which the street dogs lived, as well as the way they are treated (as the public has a big fear of rabies), I came across the centre by chance, as on one of my first placement I came across a dog in the grounds of an orphanage where I was to be doing medical checks, this dog was in a very bad way and was in need of far superior medical attention than i could of provided, I contacted the centre and they sent out a car to collect the dog, I was so touched by their commitment and dedication, when I return early from my last hospital placement in chitwan (due to illness), I visits the centre everyday to help them as they had helped me, it was here that i decided to leave clinical medicine to pursue my dream of becoming a vet.

Scene returning from Asia I have kept in close contact with all my friends at the centre and am still very much dedicated to supporting them the best I can from here in the UK.

The Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre (KAT Centre) is a non-profit registered charitable organisation dedicated to improving the welfare of Nepal's animals.

Thank you for your support.
