Story
Some of you may already be aware, others may not, that in 2021 my partner's Father was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer known as Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC). This has led to him having his voice box permanently removed and he now has a prosthetic voice-box. This all stemmed from what was initially believed to be a sore throat. It is one of the biggest understatements to say this has significantly changed both his and the families lives forever. In the UK, 5 people in every million learn they have the condition every year.
ACC is the most common of the salivary gland cancers but only represents less than 5% of all head and neck malignancies and often spreads to other parts of the body such as the Lungs.
My hope is by running in support of the Salivary Gland Cancer UK I can build awareness of this rare form of Cancer and raise valuable funds for further research into the causes and treatment.
Sincere thanks to those who donate, your support is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
