Story

In memory of the most precious invaluable gift in my life, my beautiful mum who passed away on 14th August 2014 at the age of 62.  My mum was truly my world, my best friend, my life will never ever be the same without her.  Even through all her suffering she never complained, still smiled on and was so brave. I feel honoured to have been given 27 amazing years with her, I have so many beautiful memories to cherish.

When you hear about individuals who have terminal cancer, you never really think that it will happen to someone in your own family. And when the news hits you, it’s heart breaking. My family was devastated when my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in March 2013. She endured intensive chemotherapy treatment, with long stays in hospital, watching her deteriorate over the months was extremely difficult. In July 2014 she went in for Stem Cell treatment in the hope to reach remission but she was too weak to fight infections and had multiple organ failure and sadly passed away on 14th August 2014. Almost two months have passed and it still doesn't feel real. There are no words to describe how it feels to lose the most important thing in your life. :(

Myeloma is an increasingly common cancer of the plasma cells. Plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are responsible for protecting the body against infection. Current treatments can be effective at halting Myeloma for longer and improving quality of life, but at present there is no cure. There are roughly 4,000 cases each year.

Me and my husband took part in an 8 and 12 mile walk last summer in London to help raise money for Myeloma UK, which is the only UK charity which deals exclusively with bone marrow cancer. We also held successful cupcake sales in South Kensington and were overwhelmed by the generous cake donations we received from Hummingbird, Selfridges and various other bakeries. We managed to meet our £2000 target last year thanks to all the kind donations. We would now like to set a new target of £3000. We intend to continue doing more events throughout the year and increase awareness. Our next event is a 15 mile walk in November.

Myeloma UK relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising activities. They fund research into the cure, cause, prevention, improved safer treatments and a greater understanding of Myeloma.

Please join me in helping Myeloma UK to continue their work on developing treatments for bone marrow cancer. Maybe one day a cure will be found, and others won’t have to lose their loved ones to this aggressive disease.

We are grateful for any donations made and thank you for all your support.
