Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to attend the Beatson in Glasgow, 5 days a week over a period of 8 weeks, during December/January.
Thanks to Ayrshire Cancer Support and their team of volunteer drivers this was made easier for us as a family, especially Dad who was collected each day (despite all that snow!) and driven to and from Glasgow. Not only that, he seemed to enjoy the company of the various drivers and his fellow passengers, which helped see him through a difficult time.
At the same time I was recovering from an accident I'd had earlier in the year and my Osteopath suggested that I take up walking. As a couch potato normally, I decided that if I was going to walk and get myself fit, then I might as well take the opportunity to raise some money for charity at the same time.
The Ayrshire Cancer Support Community Transport Service, staffed by volunteer drivers, takes hundreds of patients to and from hospital for treatment. The drivers make between 800 and 1000 patient journeys each month on behalf of Ayrshire cancer patients and need to raise approximately £1,500 each week to cover this cost.
I hope therefore that you will that you will help support me as I take part in the charity’s annual sponsored walk on 20th June 2010. I’ll be walking 13.5 miles from Sorn to Muirkirk and am led to believe that the route, which goes part of the way along the River Ayr Way, will take in some of the finest scenery that Ayrshire has to offer (which should help take my mind off my tired legs!).
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks for your support
Sandra
ps Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of friends and family (on here and offline) I've extended and exceeded my target, originally set at £200, on a number of occasions, so now I've removed it and will see how it goes. The donations and messages of support are much appreciated and proving a great incentive as my training regime gets underway!!
