We support people with dementia in Scotland to make sure nobody faces dementia alone

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 7th October 2010 I reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5895 metres.

Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world and is also the highest mountain on the African continent.

The route I will be taking to the top is the Machame route, which allows us to camp and fully appreciate the surroundings.  This route also allows us to trek high and sleep low to try and avoid the effects of altitude sickness!!!  As I ascend the mountain I will be passing through thick forest, moorland and scree en route to the highest point of the crater, Uhuru Peak.  The trek takes 6 days to complete.

I have uploaded a variety of pictures, which I have taken during my training so far.  I have, as they say in the walking world, bagged a few Munroe's now since my training started, but unfortunately the views from the top of most of them has been cloud and snow!!! I am just hoping my reward will be the great views from the summit of kilimanjaro!

The charity that I have chosen to raise funds for is Alzheimer's Scotland

I have been doing a variety of fundraising to help me reach my target, with the help of friends and family, including bag packs and car boot sales.  All your kind donations are greatly appreciated!

Alzheimer's Scotland is a leading specialist dementia charity who work to improve the lives of everyone affected by dementia.  It is estimated that between 58,000 - 65,000 Scots suffer from dementia and this number is continually increasing.  The charity provides information, support and a network of services and support groups from more than 60 sites around Scotland.  The fundraising that the charity receive accounts for almost a fifth of their total income and it is used to fund their Information and Helpline Services, courses for carers, campaigning activities and a variety of specialist services, so all your donations are vital to help improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers.

Since my grandad suffered from this terrible illness, and sadly passed away in 2009 I couldn't imagine raising money for any other charity!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now

THANK YOU!!!!!!!
