Story

Craig suffered a massive stroke three years ago and a second smaller but even more catastrophic a month later.  He spent 11 months in hospital and rehabilitation before returning home in March 2021.

He regained so much of the Craig we knew and loved 🥰

In the last 8 months of Craig’s life he was amazing.  His health was great and the only real issue was that he was paralysed down his left side!!

However, Craig’s blood pressure was consistently high and so he was as we found out as he was dying ‘A ticking timebomb’.

Craig suffered a massive haemorrhagic stroke (bleed on the brain), which was inoperable on 23rd July 2023.  We were devastated but knew that Craig’s wishes were to not ever want to be alive with any other complications in his life. So we were at peace with the knowledge he would pass away peacefully.

Medical team had placed a breathing tube into Craig to sedate him whilst they scanned his brain and to complete test on him as he wanted to be an organ donor. This wasn’t possible due to Craig medications and the length of time he took these.  He was still able to be a tissue donor, so maybe he helped someone somewhere.

We were advised that in their medical opinion that once this tube was removed he would pass away quickly!!!!

Oh, how wrong they were!

He passed away 45 hours later.  The worst 45 hours of absolute trauma for us💔💔💔💔💔

He was sedated throughout but would not have wanted his loved ones to bear witness to this.  We were told that he was gone and would not return to us on Sunday morning but Craig did not pass away until the Tuesday morning.  We begged them to aid his passing but obviously this can’t happen, but as a family we would have wished it could.

The law should change as I believe that even the staff around us in those 45 hours were traumatised by what they witnessed.  No one should go through what Craig went through💔💔💔
