Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My son Frazer was born in December 2011, on January 22nd 2012 at 5 weeks old, while we were celebrating his older brother's birthday, Frazer stop breathing and turned blue. I ran into A&E at St John's Hospital in Livingston with him in my arms, trying to perform CPR. This was the start of a very long and tough journey for Frazer.
Frazer was diagnosed with a double aortic arch, which was choking him from inside and left him with an extremely floppy windpipe. Frazer had two procedures within 7 days to correct his double aortic arch and move it away from his windpipe. Following this he had a number of near death events which resulted in him getting a tracheostomy and then a stent a placed in his windpipe. In May 2012 in the space of just 4 days, while still in Intensive Care, at Yorkhill he had two catastrophic bleeds from his aorta, fortunately thanks to the skill and dedication of a large number of staff from several specialities Frazer survived. In total he spent 6 months in Intensive Care at Yorkhill before being transferred to Edinburgh Children's Hospital where he spent a further 12 months between Intensive care and High Dependency as he continued to have episodes of poor health and was kept constantly on a ventilator to keep his airway open.
In July 2013 Frazer finally got home, still ventilated through his tracheostomy. However, it was not all plain sailing. It was discovered that the stent in his windpipe had migrated to his oesophagus. After much planning and collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in March 2014, just over two weeks after the birth of his younger sister, Frazer had unique, first of its kind procedure at Great Ormond Street with staff from Yorkhill there in support. Within 3 weeks Frazer was home having had his stent removed, oesophagus & windpipe repaired and his tracheostomy repaired.
For the following 3 years Frazer slowly progressed, with a number of hospital stays due to pneumonias and the occasional routine procedure. Then in the summer of 2017 Frazer had another, very serious, internal bleed from his aorta. Frazer spent a week in Intensive Care at Glasgow Children's Hospital during which time he had a stent put in to his aorta to hopefully block the area that was bleeding. He has further investigation to happen in the future to keep an eye on things, but currently is well and started mainstream Primary School in August.
I think it is safe to say that Glasgow Children's Charity is very close to the Orr family's heart, so please support me in preparing for and running my first two marathons at Stirling & then 4 weeks later at Edinburgh on behalf of Frazer & this very wonderful charity!
