Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was touched by the story from a fellow colleague who lost her father to cancer. She glowed with thanks for all the support she received and the support her father received from Marie Curie staff and this prompted me to try and do something for this charity. It started with me and my fellow colleague peter and from this it has know expanded to most of the office wanting to take part in the 5K or 10K fun run at Beecraigs Country Park on the 24th April 2011. The commitment and passion shown by my colleagues to participate in this event for Marie Curie has been overwhelming.

Wee update Marie Curie have sent us or running vests and pictures of these will be posted shortly. Wavil Ashfield from revenues has also joined the posse and he is started his training plan - or so he has said!!.

We have a new member running yes Jim Fleming has joined the posse and he is raring to go his vest has arrived and his training has started.

Phylis has finally started her training, 2 miles on Monday 7.3.2011 and she is at work today and can hardly walk ha ha! Keep up the good work Phylis.

I have been overwhelmed by the donations to the cause it has given great encouragement to all the posse. Phylis has had a wee injury and has had a wee struggle with her training, however I think this is an excuse so on the day she does not have to put to much energy in to save herself for the Sex Pistols gig in the evening. Wavil must be in a secret traing camp as we have not heard from him lately and Michelle has just bought a bike however I advised her its a fun run and she cant use a bike on the day.

Well folks they day came and the Livingston Posse were triumphant. On a hot day on the 24.04.2011 the posse made there way to Beecraigs Park and or youngest member was Katie McFadyen(aged 5) she stood in for her mother Phyllis who was sufferring from injury however we all know she was saving herself for the sex pistols that night. Katie started the ball rolling by running the 2K and she was excellent and the pictures show her with her medal and easter egg she received after all her hard work well done Katie.

The 5k & 10k run started at the same time and it was great to see the Marie Curie Daffodil vests all grouped at the start and off we went.

The conditions were very warm and the course was hilly but everyone completed and posted great times. Particular mention to Jim Fleming and Roy Turnbull for fantastic efforts over the 10K and what a run from Peter MacGregor and Wavil Ashfield on the 5K, June Wedlock and Emma Chandler were tremendous over the 5K and what can we say about Katie in the 2K. It was a wonderful day and it was great to see so many family members supporting the team and the Marie Curie cause. I myself completed the 5K rather than the 10K this was due to the flu I picked up from one of the other team members that could not take part Lorraine Donnolly or was it Jill Wisekil, they were not there due to illness but have supported and encoraged us all. Well thats it for another year and I am sure after such a wonderfull day we will be able to encourage other colleagues to step forward to the challenge of Beecraigs Country Park. Remember the people that took part had not attempted or only flirted with the thought of running, well I am proud to say they were all magnificent in there efforts and what a great charity they have supported.

Again thanks to those that have started donating and the encouraging words of support they have posted. Please try and contribute something and show your support to the runners and the charity.

With pending pledges to come in I think we will be near the £600.00 mark and that is beyond my expectations, this website stays open for 3 months after the event so if you can contribute anything please do.
