Story
The combination of a women's development course and a few drinks in the local pub is a scary thing. 'Find a goal', they said. 'Choose something stretching'. 'I'll run a half marathon' I said, rashly and even wrote it down on a piece of paper. No idea where that came from but let's face it, noone will remember what I say anyway. Who'd have thought that my local pub would house a group of people who run for pleasure (???? does not compute) who'd be happy to include me. And my course mates remembered too....
So I have to forego the sofa, my sky box and, possibly, those nights in the pub. I've found my trainers and signed up to the Great South Run. I'm worried. Once I get really worried, I might even start jogging. And please don't tell me that the Great South Run is only 10 miles - what's an extra 3 miles between friends?
So any/all messages of support, disbelief (and even just threats) would be very gratefully received. I'm going to run for Cancer Research as my mother died from cancer when I was 16 - and my father-in-law from it last year. So obviously, any donations would spur me on. And if you know of any shortcuts through Portsmouth, that would be pretty good too.
I'll update this page when I get my act together, even if it's just to get a picture of my own skanky trainers up there, rather than the stock photo...
