In case you didn't already know, I work for a company called Futures -(www.futuresadvice.co.uk) delivering careers advice in prisons. On a daily basis I see the impact that education has on men who have chosen to change their lives and build a better future for themselves on release. I know that some of you may question why your hard earned money should go to those who have committed a crime,but the evidence shows that those men and women who engage with education behind bars are less likely to re-offend on release which is surely what we all want.

Education provided in prison tends to focus on basic literacy and numeracy, and a number of other courses up to level 2 (GCSE level). This is where the Prisoners Education Trust(PET) makes such a difference. They provide the funds for distance learning course such as A levels, vocational courses,creative arts and Open University Access courses, allowing men and women to develop skills and knowledge valued by employers.
