So it's all done and was actually a whole lot better than I feared. Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored me - those generous dollars kept me motivated when it all became rather tricky around mile 22/23.
I managed to get it done in 4 hours and 16 minutes and was 20,345 out of 52,697 runners and 474/2188 in female 50-54. It was a beautiful sunny cool Autumn day and Rob and my brother Will and Imo and her lovely friends did a great job scurrying aroun Brooklyn and Queens and Manhattan shouting encouragement. Everyone was very cheerful and the crowd were fantastically encouraging. All in all it was a great experience for my one and only marathon.
I have raised nearly $12,000 for Tusk, which is a great charity doing wonderful things for conservation in Africa. I am now on the board of Tusk Trust after Tusk USA was folded back into it at the beginning of this year and have been hugely impressed by the strategy and impact that the charity is having. Tusk partners with local initiatives on the ground and prides itself on its innovation and enduring relationships with its projects which hopefully lead to long lasting solutions. The statistics are dire for the future of elephant, rhino and lion- to name just a few of the species that are threatened with extinction through poaching and the problems of human and wildlife competition for habitat.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. It is set up rather late as I am in slight denial that I really am going to run all that way, but your donations will keep me plodding around what I am (now) told is a very challenging course.
