Virgin London Marathon 2011 · 17 April 2011 ·
Welcome to my Just Giving page
On 17 April 2011 I successfully ran my first marathon and came in at 05:07:28. It was a truly incredible day and one I will never forget. Even more remarkable is that I was severly injured two weeks before as my back gave out and I couldn't move or walk!
My reasons for running were twofold:
· Firstly, to celebrate turning 40 and my road to recovery after being struck down with ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in 2007 – it took me 2 full years to get back to good health, but I got there in the end! (& I'm truly grateful)*
· Secondly, to raise funds and awareness for the MDF Bipolar Organisation. Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) is present in my immediate and extended family and I hope the posting of this webpage will help increase awareness about manic depression and break down some of the stigma surrounding mental illness generally.
Please donate what you can to assist this worthwhile organisation. MDF really makes a positive difference to the lives of those affected by bipolar disorder. See my article @ http://www.mdf.org.uk/?o=57210
The biggest challenge for me in running this marathon was overcoming my fatigue.
A big thanks to my employer and colleagues at Investec Bank plc for their ongoing support throughout this adventure!
