Voluntary Work in Kenya · 31 October 2013

Cricket Without Boundaries is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. Crucially, CWB also uses cricket as a tool in the fight against AIDS. CWB’s training sessions have at their heart discussion about the disease in terms of prevention, treatment and equality of treatment for those with and without the disease.

Story

Thanks for visiting my just giving page and hopefully after reading it, you will appreciate why donating even a small amount of money can make such a huge difference.

In the Autumn of 2013 I’m returning to Kenya to take part in a two week project with the UK charity, Cricket Without Boundaries.

CWB is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket; it also uses the game as a tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS. CWB’s training sessions have at their heart discussion about the disease in terms of prevention, treatment and equality of treatment for those both with and without HIV/AIDS

I appreciate that money may be tight but if you can spare something towards this charity it would be greatly appreciated. I’m committed to raising at least £750 for CWB and any donations you can spare would be most appreciated. None of the money donated via this page will be used for my personal costs eg. flights,.

Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate they send your money directly to the charity and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation.

Why Cricket Without Boundaries is my chosen charity?

CWB is a UK based charity which has been running for seven years; in that time it has made a massive difference in Sub-Saharan African countries including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Cameroon and Botswana.

Why Kenya? In October 2012 I went to Kenya with the project, not really knowing what to expect. I never thought it would affect me the way it has done. In the two weeks we were there we coached nearly 4,000 children from a variety of schools, orphanages and rescue centres. We also coached and trained 56 new coaches to help make both the game of cricket and HIV/AIDS messages more sustainable. Most of the children had been effected by HIV/AIDS, either they had HIV/AIDS themselves or a member of their family did. They were open and happy to tell their story in the hope we could help change the future of HIV/AIDS in the country.

It's a big ask but if we are able to make people more aware through HIV/AIDS messages and people are more careful, then this can and will change and save people’s lives. If you would like more information about the charity, the work they do or view last year’s blog then visit
