Story
In September I am running 2 half marathons, The Great North Run and Ealing Half Marathon for the Eczema Society.
My daughter Lyla has had eczema since she was 2 years old. Eczema impacts our daily lives. Firstly there is the scratching. It's become an unbreakable habit for Lyla which means her sleep is disrupted whenever she has a flare up. She will scratch and scratch until it bleeds. We apply cream daily, often trialling new products with the aim of finding a winning formula. At its worst, having cream applied stings Lyla’s skin and causes upset.
Secondly there's the emotional aspect. Children (and adults for that matter) are inquisitive. "Have you got chicken pox" she is frequently asked. "What's wrong with your skin", "I don't want to hold your hand as it's all rough". Lyla refused to remove her school cardigan for months at school as she didn't want others to see her Eczema. She feels everyone is looking at her skin.
There is no cure for eczema. We have spent the last 5 years trying to find the right combination of creams, diet and exercise.
I would appreciate any sponsorship donations. Just don't expect me to be walking come the end of September!
