I’ve decided to do something my younger self would be shocked by...run the London Marathon in 2022. The original plan had been to run it in the last days of my 20s in 2020, but well, you know what happened...! Now, I’m 32 & my knees are feeling the difference!
It’s the first time I have run anything like this distance. I’ve done a couple of halves, but a marathon is a completely different ballgame and I have no idea how I’ll do.The hours of training during the heatwave have been pretty tough, and I’ve really struggled sometimes.
Safe to say I’m pretty terrified…mostly about trying to raise £2,000. But Mencap are an incredible charity supporting people with learning disability. They provide vital support for people with learning disability, and during the pandemic, they kicked into action highlighting the additional vulnerabilities this community faced. With 1.5 million people living with a learning disability, we could gain a lot as a society if we listened and included them equally. It's an inspiring cause and an awesome organisation. They were also the main charity for the 2020 London Marathon and they really lost out when it was cancelled, so I'm thrilled to still be able to run with them in 2022.
Basically, if you could help me out by donating to help me reach my target, I’d be so, eternally grateful. Fundraising is not in my comfort zone, but Mencap are an incredible organisation and worth any amount that you can give.
Thank you & I’ll let you know how I get on!
