Dear Friends and Family
Look around. What do you see? The world is full of shapes and colours, light and shadow. Everything is both still and full of motion all at once. It's beautiful and familiar and the face of a loved one is enough to make us smile.
Now close your eyes. What do you see? Make a fist but leave a small hole, about the width of your pen. Put your fist to your right eye and open it. But remember to keep your left eye closed. What do you see now? How does your world change and how does it make you feel?
That's how my brother Ian sees the world after losing his sight last year. At 30 years old, my brother is having to learn to cope in a very different world to the one he grew up in. It's noisy, it moves fast and it can be scary.
And sadly, he's not alone. Every day 100 people start to lose their sight. Luckily, there are organisations such as the RNIB in the UK, and the CNIB in Canada, that are able to help people such as my brother overcome the challenges of sight loss, increase their independence and achieve their goals.
But right now the RNIB can only reach 1 in 3 people who need their help. Whether big or small, please help me raise funds so that they can reach the other two.
