Story
**Update** Mark now has a 'real' place too!
After many failed New Year’s resolutions, I eventually got round to completing the couch to 5k two years ago with the help of some friends. Last year I managed to progress to the (very) occasional 10k and started to kid myself that a half marathon wasn’t very much more. Roll forward to this year, add on a few Covid lockdown pounds and the fact that my running has been somewhat irregular (who’s kidding, at times non-existent!), when someone suggested I run the Great North Run for Menphys I thought why not, maybe this is just the motivation I need!
Not wanting Mark to feel excluded, I thought he needed a goal too, so I have persuaded him to run a virtual half marathon the same weekend! We just need to sort out a route and who knows I might even provide him with a goody bag at the finishing line!!
Training is not currently going too well but I am determined to do this so please pass on any tips. Coming from Newcastle, the Great North Run has a special meaning for me and I did run it in 1983, 38 years ago. All I remember is the extra long blisters stretching the entire length of my feet!! Why I think I can regain the fitness level I had in my teens, I've no idea!
I am raising funds for Menphys, a fantastic charity who have continued to support children and young people with disabilities and their families at home during the pandemic so please help me support them.
THANK YOU!
