Belfast City Marathon 2018 · 7 May 2018 ·

Dementia NI was set up by 5 people living with dementia. They knew that raising awareness and challenging the stigma of dementia was vital in empowering them, and others, to live well with their diagnosis. Dementia NI drive's positive change , your support makes that possible. Thank you.

Story

Growing up I was always very close to my nana, so when she was diagnosed with dementia, it hit me hard.

Watching someone you love slowly disappear is heartbreaking. Sadly she died in October 2016.

I decided to take on my first marathon to coincide with my 30th birthday and thought why not raise some money for a great cause at the same time.

If it can help another family dealing with a dementia diagnosis then the 26 miles will be worth it.

So I am doing this in memory of my nana.

Dementia NI is a local charity supporting people living with dementia. People with dementia taking action, having their voices heard and improving the lives of everyone who has dementia. The lives of people are dramatically changed by a dementia diagnosis. Our vision is to ensure everyone living with dementia in NI will receive an accurate and timely diagnosis, have access to appropriate services and will live well with the right support. We will continue to raise awareness, educate, train and challenge the stigma of dementia.
