Trip to Mount Kilimanjaro!!!
We all know that life is not fair, but some places are tougher than others. Having to walk for miles for water, having to wait until harvest to eat properly, having to leave school early. These are the realities for millions in developing countries, especially in Africa.
ADRA provides opportunities to escape poverty. See 'www.adra.org.uk'
So the 3 of us... Peter Yesudian, Helia Mateus and Sarah Shepley are embarking on the trip of a life time, to raise funds on behalf of ADRA.
Peter:
"This is my 50th year! I have been blessed so much, but am always aware that so many people have a tough life. I am a dentist in Swindon, and for the last 10 years have visited and worked in Kenya helping people with their dental needs. Three years ago I climbed Mt Kenya, my first ever mountain! Since then I have dreamed of climbing Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest. ADRA works with the poorest people in the world, and the money we raise will go towards those affected by the Cyclone in Mozambique and Zimbabwe."
Helia:
"I was privileged to live and work in Burkina Faso and Madagascar, and travelled across Africa during my 18 years working in international development. I have seen the difference that a few pounds can make to empower people through education or save lives by accessing primary healthcare.
But there is more to Africa ... breathtaking landscapes, incredible creatures and especially, the smiles of its people and the warmness of their hearts!
I am so proud Sarah is taking this initiative. I am not sure I will make it to the top of Africa, but I am trying to get fit and will do my best! I am thrilled to be going back to Africa in September!
Sarah:
"Growing up in one of the poorest countries in Africa I have seen first hand some of the challenges people face every day.
Also having witnessed charity work from a very early age through my parents's link to ADRA, I have dreamed of one day doing something to contribute to this charity myself.
So, I have decided to take up the challenge of climbing the highest free standing mountain in Africa. If any of you don't know which one I am talking about, I mean Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. What goes up has to come down!".
If you feel so inclined to help the work that ADRA does, please sponsor this page. All donations will go directly to ADRA-UK and will not be used to pay our personal costs for the trip. Every little counts and will be an encouragement to us. A pound a meter, all the way to 5,895m!
