Fundraising for Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal
Story
I decided to do the challenge for this charity after the care I received whilst in Salisbury District Hospital with Pneumonia in 2016.
I was taken into A&E and then bedded down on a respiratory ward for a week. The level of care I received was second to none, especially considering how stretched the NHS is at the moment.
I was quite happy to be sent home with some migraine tablets as my early symptoms were a high temp and a really bad headache! The doctors told me once I was discharged that if I had not have been made to stay in the hospital that night, that I most likely would have died due to how severely dehydrated I was and the fact that my temp wouldn't go below 40 degrees C. That week I was very sick, needing morphine and other painkillers, oxygen and loads of antibiotics through a drip which wasn't pleasant to say the least.
The ward I was on was supposed to be solely for respiratory patients but lack of beds elsewhere meant that a lot of patients suffering from dementia were on this ward too. The Doctors and Nurses were fantastic with these patients too, despite them keeping the rest of the ward awake late into the night shouting and screaming for help because of their condition and how frightened they were.
I just want to give back to the hospital, and think that this charity is amazing, so please dig deep because you will never know when you might need the hospital and its facilities, many of which have been paid for through this charity!!
