Story
During one of the first Covid lockdowns, my Venture Scout friends and I decided to set ourselves a challenge for when we could meet again...and 3 years later we're finally going to do it!
On 27th - 28th May we're going to be walking from London to Brighton, 100km total, and to motivate me to the finish line, I thought it would be a good idea to try to raise some funds.
Saulius was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa about 15 years ago. It's inherited, and as yet there's no cure.
RP makes cells in the retina break down slowly over time, causing vision loss. In the more common types of RP, a person will first notice visual problems at dusk or in poor light, so-called night blindness, and also a gradual reduction in the peripheral field of vision, loss of the outer edges of vision (‘side vision’), resulting in a tendency to miss things or trip over things. At an early stage the central vision (‘straight-ahead and reading vision’) is unaffected. As the outer edges of the field of vision gradually disappear, the RP sufferer is left with the condition commonly referred to as “tunnel vision”.
We're obviously hoping that a breakthrough will be reached soon, so that he can keep hunting, reading, driving and laughing at us when we pull funny faces, long into his old age!
But all research needs funding, so here's to walking, to try and raise a few more pennies to help with that : )
Thanks : )
