South Georgia Heritage Trust promotes for the public benefit, the conservation and protection of the physical and natural environment and surrounding waters of South Georgia - and advances the education of the public in the island's historical heritage.

Story

Dear All, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having covered the distance of 225km the team of 9 including 3 wounded soldiers reached the South Pole on December 10, 2012 !!!

'In the Footsteps of the Legends' expedition (www.footstepsoflegends.org.uk), among other charity missions, is raising money for a conservation project of international importance taking place on a sub-Antarctic island of South Georga. The Habitat Restoration Project launched by South Georgia Heritage Trust (www.sght.org) is the largest rodent eradication programme ever undertaken. Once South Georgia is rat-free, the number of seabirds breeding there should increase by over 100 million (!) - a figure of glabal significance at a time when many seabird species are in decline.

Thank you for your support! Sasha Borodin, SGHT Trustee
