The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds two clinics giving free treatment to survivors of the 1984 Bhopal Disaster (the World’s worst industrial disaster). It also treats thousands of people who are being slowly poisoned by drinking water contaminated with chemicals never cleared-up from the disaster site.

Story

As you may know, I have been working with the Bhopal Medical Appeal (BMA), and am on the ground in India with some incredible people: gas survivors, ongoing contamination victims - including new-born babies - and medical staff.

These people are victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Disaster, known as the world's worst industrial disaster ever. If you have never heard of the Bhopal Gas Disaster or would like to read more, please take just a few minutes to read about it at http://bhopal.org/.

In solidarity with survivors who completed 5 days of waterless fasting last month, I will be participating in a fast on the anniversary itself and have set a fundraising goal of £180 in 3 days. This really is a small amount for many of my reasonably privileged friends and family, and literally translates to just £10 per community consigned to living in toxicity because of corporate (mis)priorities. These communities make up 100,000 largely Muslim and other religious minority, poor and marginalised persons suffering and still at risk today! Please consider giving in the name of just one community to make a mark.

I am also doing this because I laud the free healthcare provided to survivors by the two BMA supported clinics here, seen with my own eyes for held in high regard by victims. A combination of western and ayurvedic medicine has proven to alleviate the symptoms of diseases due to inhalation of gas, and young children born with ailments benefit from incredible rehabilitation services.

The BMA also campaigns for the end of the second disaster that continues today through demanding a full clean up, and I salute this pragmatic approach so that there are no future generations living amidst contaminated groundwater and so that I don't have to write or ask again in five years’ time. Let's help today's victims recover and prevent the next babies from being exposed.

Thank you in advance for your help!
