Three peaks challenge 2006 · 24 June 2006 ·
Welcome to the Scots DG 3 Peaks Challenge website. This is the official fund raising site for the challenge.
We have already achieved the most arduous part of the challenge, namely to complete the 3 Peaks in under 24 hours. Our official time was 23 hours and 36 minutes.
The second part of the Challenge; to raise £30,000 for the Scots DG regimental museum, with 25% of the total going to Cancer Research UK, is where you come in!
This is just the easiest way to help us to reach our target of £30,000. 25% of the total that we raise will be donated to Cancer Research UK. and this will be sent in one lot from the Museum Trust at the end of August when this site will close. If you are a UK tax payer an extra 28% in tax will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
If you are wondering how much to donate, here are a couple of facts that might help you decide. We climbed a total, over the three peaks, of 3,407 metres or 11,178 feet. 10p per metre would equate to £340.70. 1p per foot would be £111.78. In truth, however, any sum that you can donate will be gratefully received. The overall age of the team @ 10p a year would be approx £60.00!
The date of our successful Challenge was 24/25 June 2006. We started at 4.28pm, Sat 24 June 2006, at the foot of Ben Nevis and the ascent of Scafell Pike at 4.00am on Sun 25 June, having driven through the night from Ben Nevis. We arrived at Snowdon, (Pen y Pas) at 12.30 and completed the ascent and descent of Snowdon at 4.04pm.
We even managed to spare the time to be piped off Ben Nevis by three Pipers from the Pipes and Drums Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. They had been airlifted up to Lochan Meall, halfway up Ben Nevis, by a Royal Navy Search and Rescue helicopter from Prestwick
