Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit the SCPS teams JustGiving page.

It’s 21 years since the formation of the British Porphyria Association (BPA), So they have chosen the Active 21 campaign.

We are participating by getting active by completing 21 flights of stairs at Ninewells Hospital every day along with daily individual personal challenges themed around "21", e.g. 21 squats, 21 Push-ups, 210 hula's (because 21 is to easy!!) By the end of this we will be fighting fit Porphyria warriors!!!

Porphyrias are a group of uncommon disorders that are caused when there are problems with the production of chemicals called porphyrins in the body.
Porphyrins are the chemical building blocks of haem, which forms haemoglobin, the component of red blood cells that allows oxygen to be carried around the body. An increase in the amount of a specific porphyrin or a porphyrin precursor results in symptoms of porphyrias.

Porphyrias are often separated into those that cause acute attacks and those that cause skin damage, although some disorders can have both types of symptoms.
