Story

"What if I tried to do it, if I put myself out there and I failed - I just don't think I could take that kind of rejection" - Marty McFly.

Thank you for visiting this page, you have been invited here because you can make a difference to a third of the population of this country. One in three people will suffer from cancer in their lifetime and everyone you know, including yourself, will be effected by
it indirectly.

Donating to Cancer Research will fund the long road to a cure, prevention and relief from such a wide spread disease.

To help to encourage you to donate, I ran the Seattle Marathon on 29/11/09, and haven't told a soul until now.

Why not tell anyone?  I was afraid that I'd fail and look like an idiot in front of everyone to tell the truth, but to complete six months of training and the 26 miles on the cold streets of Seattle feels like an amazing accomplishment for a lazy 29 year old living a quasi-student lifestyle for the last ten years.  Plus now I've run the race already you practically HAVE to donate something.

If you know me at all you should be surprised that I managed to run the race, that I could put down a can of beer for long enough to put on trainers and go out into the cold for the sole reason of running in circles. Training has been hard, it started in Sydney and ended in Vancouver with a six week gap whilst in Scotland. It's been hard keeping it quiet, the feeling of euphoria on realising that I'd ran a half marathon on a rainy Tuesday was tough to conceal.  The feeling of failure in not being able to finish a much shorter run is tough to bear alone.

The feeling of finishing 26 miles on a rainy Sunday in the USA is something else entirely.  I haven't felt that good since John Collins scored against Brazil in 1998.  I completed the race in four hours, forty five minutes and twelve seconds.  I'm delighted with that.

It's a long road to better treatment for cancer, but it's not impossible. Please give a small amount to help yourself in the future.

The 30th of November is not only St Andrew's Day, but it is also my Mum's birthday - the total raised here will be donated to Cancer Research in her name.  She found out about this five words ago.

Happy Birthday Mum.

Dad, you're still getting socks.
