UNICEF works to build a better world for every child, every day. A world where every child has the chance to fulfil their potential and grow up healthy and safe. We work in 190 countries and territories around the world, reaching more children than any other humanitarian organisation.

Story

We are very passionate about the support that UNICEF provides to children around the world and felt strongly, that as a school, we needed to raise awareness of the plight of children less fortunate than ourselves and to try and help in any way we could, however small. We came up with the idea of the whole school (500 pupils) undertaking a “water carry” challenge with the idea of everyone beginning to realise that there are children around the world who are having to walk miles every day just to get fresh water.

As you may know, Sedbergh is famous for having some very large hills and the town itself sits in the shadow of one particularly large hill called Winder (picture above). The plan is that each boarding house (9) will enter a competition where they will have to race to the top of Winder carrying cases of bottled water. The first house to get all their cases to the top (unopened!) will be the winner. Each house can work out the most effective way to do this so that the event also becomes a team building exercise. Each pupil will pay £2 to enter the competition, alongside this we are hoping to also be sponsored for this event by parents of the children, families, teachers and friends.

We are extremely grateful for any donations towards this challenge.
