Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A friend of ours, Robert Stubbs, is an avid trekker and has completed several high altitude treks including Mount Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp. He was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in October 2017 at the age of 58 and has decided to complete one last extreme mountain trek whilst he is still in the early stages of the diagnosis. Rob consulted with Parkinson's UK to come up with a trekking challenge that could also raise money for research at the same time.

The result is, a trek of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru! To put Machu Picchu in perspective; The altitude of Machu Picchu is around 4200m high and Everest base camp is 5380m high. Even strong hikers can struggle when climbing Machu Picchu.

Rob has put together an eclectic group of 10 friends and family members with an age range from early 20's to early 60's, who will all be attempting the challenge in April this year. Myself and my dad decided to volunteer to complete this expedition as part of the team. The highest mountain we have climbed is probably Snowdon and so we need all the luck we can get. My mum will also be attending and will be hiking all the way to the station to get a train to the top in order to take our photo after the trek is over. Rob, we are doing this for you!

If we survive, the money raised from this page will go directly to a fantastic cause: Parkinsons UK. Parkinson's is a horrible neuro-degenerative disease. There are around 145,000 sufferers in the UK, about 1 in every 350, and around 10 million people worldwide.

However, there has been remarkable progress in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson's in the last year. Scientists are getting closer and closer, but as yet there is no cure for this debilitating disease which slowly eats away at its victims. We need all the help we can get in moving towards that final push over the line, for the benefit of all.

I thought I'd set up JustGiving page for anyone who wants to support us. Any money you give will be going towards a fantastic cause.

Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.

Thank you all so much!

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
