We are the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For many of us, reminiscing about our childhood is generally quite joyful and comical. However, for some this is not the case. Many people think back to their childhood and are haunted by numerous experiences of child abuse. This needs to stop. Abuse can occur in multiple ways including physical, sexual, psychological, neglect, bullying, child trafficking...the list is unfortunately endless.

Today, we are fortunate enough to have organisations such as the NSPCC who are fighting to end child abuse, fighting to rebuild the lives of those affected and to prevent and protect those at risk.

Last year alone figures indicated:

  • 8,000 offences of cruelty and neglect of children were recorded by the Police.
  • Over 50,000 children in the UK alone needed protection from abuse.
  • Over 90% of sexually abused children were abused by someone they knew.
  • More recently, over 1,700 children were victims of FGM - These children were aged between 5-8 years old.

Organisations such as the NSPCC are working to reduce and with time eradicate these figures completely by offering support and guidance to those impacted through the use of outlets such as Childline.

Last year:

  • Over 62,000 children and young people used Childline.
  • The NSPCC helpline responded to over 9,000 contacts about physical abuse, 13,389 contacts about neglect and 6,000 contacts about emotional abuse.
Charities such as the NSPCC can support children in these situations and keep them protected from harm. Let's raise awareness of child abuse and help eradicate it.

We all know it exists, we should stop it. In an attempt to support the NSPCC, I have decided to run the royal parks foundation half marathon and raise money for the organisation so they can continue protecting more children from abuse.
