I am volunteering and fundraising for International Service where i'll be going to Ghana in April 2017 for 3 months to help fight social marginalization, to protect + promote the rights of disadvantaged groups such as: empowering women, children/young people, the disabled, those with mental health issues, orphans, etc. At 6 years old, I myself had to escape from brutal war, extreme poverty & attack in my home country. Leaving all my family behind in hopes for a better chance of survival- of life. And the dream to one day not only go back & make a difference, but to aid others all over the world in improving their difficult circumstances & reminding them to never stop dreaming, for struggle is strength & should not stop success.

This opportunity that I have been offered is part of the International Citizen Service (ICS) scheme, a UK government-funded development programme that brings together young people aged 18 to 25 from all backgrounds to fight poverty in overseas and UK communities. 

Each placement costs around £8000 which has already been funded by the Department for International Development (DfID). However, as part of my agreement to be a part of the programme, prior to departure I am required to fundraise a minimum of 10% of this overall cost (£800). The fundraising I am conducting will demonstrate proof of my commitment to this project and will also allow more young people to take part in international development and make a positive change worldwide. The more money that is raised, the more people ICS can reach and therefore the greater impact the ICS programme will have of fighting poverty.

Living here in the UK now, a developed country, and having news so often of the dangers my family are up against back home as well as others across the globe, the feeling of helplessness is frustrating. Seeing so much suffering in the world & thinking 'I NEED to do something' but 'What can I do?'- 'How?'. This is a start. No matter how how small or big. I hope you can help me make a change.
