Story

In support of The Rainbow Trust, Adventure Ashram, NI Hospice, Oxfam and Eryn’s Eyesight Appeal

From Goa to Kerala, an adventure like no other, “Why would you do it, because life is short, you should live it,…”

On January 22 2012, Shane Braniff, founder and MD of Eurocables (Belfast) Limited, shall leave the relative comfort of his home in the Ards Peninsula, forsake his desk at work, wave goodbye to his wife and kids, jump on a plane to India and embark on what will no doubt be one of the most challenging two weeks of his life.

Together with a number of other bikers from around the world, Shane will ride a classic Royal Enfield 350 Bullet from Goa, 2000km down the western coast of India to Kerala, through some of the most treacherous and beautiful terrain one could imagine. Anyone who has completed this trek will tell you that the extremes of conditions and dire roads they endure are only eclipsed      by the friendliness, warmth and welcome of the Indian people they have the pleasure to meet along the way.

So why is he doing it? Ultimately because life is short,  and we should all have an adventure like this at least once in our lifetime, and if he can help some very deserving charities  and causes along the way, then hopefully this trip does not only have the potential to change Shane’s outlook on life, but also little Eyrn’s and many others.

Shane has personally paid for all the costs of his trip,  and Eurocables have already donated generously to the appeal, so you can be assured that 100% of the money raised shall go directly to your nominated charity or worthy cause, be it The Rainbow Trust, helping to raise the standard of life for terminally ill children and their families, Adventure Ashram , giving back to the very communities Shane will visit during his trip by providing education and healthcare, Oxfam, with all its good work worldwide,  NI Hospice, giving care and respite to those in our community with life threatening conditions, and  Eryn’s Eyesight Appeal, raising funds to give little Eryn Kirkpatrick from County Fermanagh the chance to see her mum and dad and the world for the first time. Little Eryn was born with Scepto-Optic Dysplasia, a glandular condition which causes blindness. This condition can be treated abroad, and will hopefully give Eryn her eyesight, and a completely different life to the one she currently has. Now that, and indeed all these causes, are worth riding 2000 kilometres for.

We hope you will all support Shane by donating to this appeal in whatever small way you can, feel free to specify which of the above mentioned charities you wish to support. We have created a couple of links on Just Giving,  www.justgiving.com/shanebraniff for Oxfam  www.justgiving.com/shane-braniff for Northern Ireland Hospice, just follow the above website links if this is convenient for you. Otherwise, you can do it the old fashioned way and post your donation or just drop it in to Eurocables  Westbank Road in person and grab a coffee and catch up.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, we do acknowledge the current economic climate and appreciate that this is not the best of years to be asking you to make a contribution, but we also recognise that because of this, your contribution is needed, and will be appreciated more than ever.

Thank you and best regards

Shane and the staff at Eurocables
