My Mum and I are doing the ten mile Moonlit Walk for The Heart of Kent Hospice on Saturday 22 September 2012 at 10pm.

Although I have been fortunate enough not to have had to use the services of a hospice, I have (too many) friends and family who have had to do so, and so am well aware of the amazing work that they do for patients and their families. 

The Heart of Kent Hospice in Aylesford, Kent provides specialist care and support to patients and their families who are affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses.  This care is provided through their Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy, Community Nursing Team and Family Support Team to approximately 800 patients each year.  Their Community Nursing Team also cares for at least 350 patients in their own home each week.  Their care is free to those that need it.  However, with annual running costs of £3.8 million each year, and only 29% local statutory funding they rely heavily on the local community and businesses for support.

* £125 will pay for a Specialist Community Nurse to visit a patient at home
* £200 will pay for a new blood pressure monitor for the ward
* £500 will buy a child a series of counselling sessions
