Sharrow's nonsensical bike mission!

After a year of mayhem and change I decided to find my fitness again, get outside more and challenge myself in aid of good cause. But motivation has never been one of my greatest strengths.....
Several hours of eating ice cream later, I found the Dartmoor Classic. Widely recognized as the most prestigious (and one of most difficult) road races in the UK and thought, 67 miles...... 6000ft climb...... how hard can it be?
But it turns out that is just training for the main event, after
the boyfriend entered Pivot 24/12; the hardest endurance
mountain bike race in the southwest and if he can do it, surely it
will be a walk in the park for an athlete like me after all the
'training' I’ve (supposedly) been doing?
When I've never mountain biked before?
When I don't own a mountain bike?
When I have the upper body strength of a can of tuna?
How hard can it be..... 12hours, 100miles and 10,000ft of climbing on a
bike I don't own yet?
Really?
So apart from the self-motivation to complete my nonsensical mission I'm also doing this in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance which does an
incredible job saving lives, including my Mums after a serious car
accident in February 2015 and who is thankfully still with us today
due to the fast response of the local Air Ambulance.
Devon Air Ambulance owns 2 helicopters and operates 7 days a week. The service costs £5.5 million every year and is proud to be independent
of Government and National Lottery funding, relying solely on the
generous donations of the people, businesses and communities of
Devon.
