Story
Given that a PE teacher once told me that I'm the only student she'd given up on, in her entire career, it's safe to say that public sports are really not my thing.
However, I feel like it's my time to give back to the programme that made me... Year Here. Which is why I will be running the Hackney Half marathon, to raise money for the Year Here Foundation.
I was incredibly lucky when I did Year Here - my family live in London, and wouldn't have been able to do the programme otherwise.
Year Here transformed my life (see also: Pomegranate, my friends, my networks, working at Housing Justice!) and I want to help ensure the opportunity's there for other social entrepreneurs.
So please support me! I have already injured my self (sob) and I'm really scared, so would appreciate anything you can offer.
A now... a note from Year Here!
We're raising money to enable a Fellow with limited financial resources to participate in the Year Here programme. The money will be raised and distributed through CIVA, and all proceeds will go to a Year Here Fellow.
Putting a year aside to do to Year Here is a big sacrifice for anyone, but if you have no savings or parental support taking part can be near impossible. We want to work with people who have the most potential for social impact, regardless of their background or financial circumstances, and we definitely don't want to contribute social inequality.
Over the past few years, we've been able to provide bursaries through generous contributions from philanthropists. We want to expand the number of bursaries we can offer to enable more people get started as social entrepreneurs, and to use their creativity and energy to help make a better world.
