Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

By Sponsoring my head shave you are supporting the Shed at the Park's outstanding work with children from all walks of life. Without additional support they will have to close. We need all we can raise to stop this from happening. Any donation no matter how small makes a difference so please donate and help.

As you can see from the photos, my hair was quite long. I'd spent 2 years growing my rebellious look, but it was a worthy cause.

The deed is now done as of the 15th January. (See  photo's and videos.) A massive thanks to the Chesham Barber Shop for their kindness and patience, (and bravery,) Huge thank yous to all the Shed helpers and friends who came down on the day to give support, (Yes I was trembling a bit to start with.) The fundraising doesn't stop here. If you have enjoyed what you have seen here and on you tube please donate by clicking the button. You can donate anonymously and also leave gift aid which has enormous value.

Thanks for your support.

Lee Marshall.

Below is a little diary of the months leading up to the head shave.

22/09/2010

Only 2 donations since setting up. A little worried about hitting the target. I'm hoping I haven't underestimated people's wishes to see me tidy up my hair. Fingers crossed. Following up a lead this week from a local venue that might be interested in hosting the event.

25/09/2010

Two more donations! Thanks to you all really helped me to keep going with it this week. Just sitting watching you tube videos of men having their heads shaved completely. Trying to work out what I will look like. I think I will need someone experienced to do it.

02/10/2010

30% reached today!! Very pleased. Now only have to think about the other 70%. Thank you to all those who have donated. A lot more promises from people who are more willing to donate in cash than online. Hoping now pay day is out of the way people might be more keen to give. Some interesting ideas coming out as to how they want to hold the event. Can't mention them yet but I'll update when I get more news.

19/10/10

Passing the half way mark was a really big boost. If I can match the sponsors I've already had then it's looking good for hitting the target. It's been difficult with other things to try and keep people aware of the head shave and remembering to sponsor so now hoping friends can help a little and promote.

30/10/10

‎3 weeks to grade zero and the realisation of what I have promised to do is just starting to hit home.
Not just a quick going over with the clippers. Jeez, I will be bald and shiny! 66% of the target reached. Really big thanks to all those who have donated. I never dreamed I would have got this far, especially in such changing times.

10/11/10

STOP PRESS. I have been asked if I can hang fire on the shave until the 18th December. It's looking likely to happen around 2pm at the clocktower end of town but we need to petition the council to let us use the public space. I'll keep posted and let everyone who has already donated know what is happening. Thanks for your patience, the hair is now getting mighty long having not been trimmed since May. Over 75% of target now reached!! I think we are going to make it.

14/11/10

Bought a big big rainbow coloured wolly hat yesterday. I think I may buy a selection of hats so I can reflect my mood on my head. :)

15/11/10

Confirmation! The town council have given the green light to us to be able have a public shaving of the head! We are set for 2pm on Saturday the 18th December, under the clock tower in Chesham high street. The press are already wanting pictures for a before and after piece so keep your eye's peeled.

09/12/10

Nine days to go now. Someone asked me if I'm nervous today but I think I'm more apprehensive about hitting the target. £404.18p (don't ask where 18p came from,) just under £100 short now with just over a week to go. If you are donating, please see if you can get a friend to donate too. It doesn't matter how much, 18p, 50p, £1 it doesn't matter but if enough people give something, then that something will add up to a bigger something. These children have worked hard this year, performing for clubs and venues, raising money, bringing happiness to others. It will be a tragedy if we cannot raise enough to keep them going.

The barber is booked, the stage is set and the clocktower in chesham should be packed with people. Come down in the afternoon of 18th December to see singing, stalls, culminating in the Head Shave at 2pm.

15/12/2010

Wow! The publicity machine is in full swing. There are details of the headshave on the Chesham Council webpage, the bucks free press and the examiner are running stories, there are sandwich boards and posters going around the town on Saturday and with more donations we are now up to £464.18. Thank you so much with hand on heart. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that so many people would donate money but so glad that you did. If I could throw my arms around you all and give you a big hug, I would.

£35.72 will take me to the target. A small step for someone's wallet, a giant leap for the Shed at the Park!

17/12/2010

£479.18!! 7 minutes left in the day. Sitting thinking a lot about what I'm doing tomorrow. I've never had my head completely shaved before. So glad we've raised so much for the Shed, really hoping it makes a difference. There is a 60% chance of snow tomorrow. It's going to be cold. SO if you're looking to see a very blue headed man shivering with a little fear as well as the cold having his head shaved, come down to the clock tower at 2pm.

Several people are recording the event for posterity and there should be some photo's in the local papers. I will try and get as many links on here over the weekend.

Best wishes to all of you. Thank you so much all your support, promotion and goodwill.

14/01/2011

As most of you must have realised by now, my hair wasn't cut on the 18th as was promised. The cause...

...The lovely English weather or 18cm of snow kept me from my goal. In fact most people decided to leave early and I was stuck in traffic for 5 and a half hours. So I got to keep my hair over Christmas and through the very very cold weather. Well the new year has started and we are once again going to attempt to shave it off. I am bookd in at the Chesham Barber shop for 9.00 AM tomorrow morning. If you wish to come along, the shop is by the clock tower in Chesham.

A big thanks to all who have donated so far. If you are browsing here, please leave a small donation. They don't have to be big to mean something.

I will post video/photo's on this site when the deed is done for those who cannot make tomorrow morning.

15/01/2011

The deed is done. and the photos are posted. Thanks to all who have donated and anyone who donates after this post.
