University of Sheffield Amnesty living off an Asylum Seeker budget for the week

Sheffield Amnesty is raising money for ASSIST Sheffield
Donations cannot currently be made to this page

ASSIST · 3 February 2014

ASSIST works with people in Sheffield who have been refused asylum in the UK. They are evicted from their Home Office accommodation and forced into destitution. We provide our clients with stable, dignified accommodation, regular financial support and a person-centred casework service.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Asylum Seekers live off a weekly budget of just £36.63 (on average). This goes on rent, bills and other costs as well meaning the budget for food, drink and entertainment is usually about £10 a week.

Asylum Seekers are not allowed to work and so this tiny budget is almost impossible to live off. The University of Sheffield Amnesty are showing solidarity with Asylum seekers by living off the same budget from the 3rd- 10th of March as part of Refugee Week organisaed by Student Action for Refugee and Asylum Seekers (STAR).

Please give generously as all money will be donated to ASSIST- Asylum Seeker Support Initiative Short Term. This charity does great work supporting Asylum Seekers and helping that £10 stretch further.

The University of Sheffield Ammesty are only doing this for a week, so please think about those who have this budget for literally years on end. If you are thinking about helping such a situation please visit the ASSIST website (below).
