Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My sister, Sheila Mack, died on 29th March at the age of 87 years. Prior to her retirement, Sheila was a dedicated teacher and head-teacher.
Sheila only ever wanted to be a teacher and started her career in 1952 at a primary school in one of the (then) most deprived areas in Newcastle - Cruddas Park Junior School in Scotswood, Newcastle upon Tyne, moving some years later to Whiteleas School in South Shields.
Sheila was passionate about giving the best opportunity possible to children regardless of their background. During her career she taught both gifted children and those classed as having special educational needs; each thrived under her tutillage. Sheila was also blessed with a wonderful soprano singing voice and was a talented seamstress and artist, talents regularly called into use by the schools she taught in.
In 1959 she went off alone to work as a teacher at an African bush town in Zambia and worked extensively in schools in Zambia and Malawi, later becoming Head Teacher of Kasama School for Girls in Zambia.
Returning to the UK in the 1970s, Sheila taught at East Boldon Junior School before retiring.
An independent woman all her life, Sheila would approve of the Malala foundation which strives world-wide to give every girl the opportunity of education as a gateway to having the confidence and freedom to make their own choices in life.
In memory of Sheila Mack, 11th August 1932-29th March 2020.
Thank you.
