Story

So, did a crazy mile fast run last night which definitely felt more like a sprint. An interesting aspect to note was the moment my arms went numb... very disturbing! Heart thought it was being ripped out of its chest BUT I still didn't vomit :)

The story from the beginning

On the 7th July, this year, a friend who shall remain nameless ;) asked if I'd like to join her in training for a half marathon. In my vulnerable, jet-lagged state I expressed great enthusiasm for a race I thought would be months away. She then said it was in September... hmm... but she had a 12 week training plan... er, okay? Once suckered in I found out it was 8 weeks away and was emailed a 10 week training plan which we had to start at week 3!!!

Bearing in mind I'd never run farther than 5K before, I was slightly worried. Our first run was just under 7k and as Lisa (oops, sorry!) chatted effortlessly around our "flat" run (which went UP the Cowgate, UP the end of the Grassmarket and finally UP(!!!) into Bruntsfield) I panted like a donkey on its last legs whilst internally swearing she needed a lesson on elevation! BUT, I made it round, without stopping and, most importanly, without vomiting!

Three and a half weeks in I feel like I've been running for months. I'm really enjoying it and I can now chat whislt running too :) I could never have gotten this far on my own and I'm so glad I was conned into it ;) Thanks Lisa!!

Now that I've finally registered for the run I've decided to do it for charity. I've chosen the UK Children's Neurological Research Campaign which supports "research that leads to improved treatment and life prospects for children with brain and other neurological disorders." After starting studying psychology I'm really interested in how our brains affect our behaviour and what efforts can be done to help those whose lives are affected by neurological illnesses. Also, one of their supported projects is researching into Dancing Eye Syndrome which was one of the symptoms my lovely cousin had when she had cancer as a toddler so that confirmed my choice.

I would be very grateful if you could please support me with a donation, however small.

Thank you!!
