Story
Friends and family-
I am about to embark on one of the most challenging adventures that I have taken on to date- cycling the length of the UK from Land's End to John O'Groates; 960 miles in 9 days and all while camping out! Yes, not most people's idea of fun but I feel fortunate to be able to do this ride and it’s for a great cause.
A good friend of mine, Lenika (picture above), was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year. While the prognosis has been excellent, Lenika's fertility was at risk and she endured six months of intensive chemotherapy. Being from California, she was miles away from friends and family. Throughout this difficult time, the Macmillan nurses at Charing Cross hospital provided Lenika with both practical and emotional support. They got to know Lenika on a personal level comforting (and in many cases literally holding her hand) through the process. They helped her understand the medical procedures, provided guidance related to insurance coverage and most importantly gave her the attention and support she needed at this time.
Lenika was constantly amazed by how much the Macmillan nurses care about their patients- on any given day in the oncology ward they can be seen greeting hundreds of patients (and their families) by first name, while knowing their personal situation and concerns.
Nearly 98% of the Macmillan Cancer Support comes from voluntary giving. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to support this worthy organization as I have seen first-hand how much impact they have on their patients.
Please donate to support the Macmillan Cancer Support team and all of their fine work.
Thank you! I will keep you posted on the ride!
