Warwick in Africa: Shivani Jaswal

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been given such a privileged education. I feel that it is unfair that intelligent and able students are unable to pursue their goals, simply because they don't have the access, encouragement or appropriate standard of teaching. I have been really inspired by the stories and experiences of the children who have been taught by volunteers in the past and I would really like to make the same difference
School life for young Africans today is vastly different to the privileged education we receive in the UK. The quality of Maths and English teaching in Africa means that young people are shut off to a vast range of possibilities. Warwick student teachers can bring their energy, knowledge and passion to an African classroom and inspire students to pursue their goals. Since 2006, Warwick in Africa has already benefitted over 280,000 young Africans - encouraging many to pursue higher education.
I will be heading to Kilombero, Tanzania in July for six weeks. I will be teaching secondary level Maths to classes of up to 75 children. I also hope to organise drama activities for the children, especially putting on a play. I will document my experience through pictures, video blogs and will put a full report on my time in Tanzania over the six weeks. Warwick in Africa already makes a huge difference, 100% of learners taught directly by volunteers find Maths and English much easier.
I am hoping to raise £1000 that will be used to fund 2017's volunteers so that the work of Warwick in Africa can continue. It costs approximately £10 to teach one child in Africa for a month, so your £10 could make all the difference to one student. £10 is simply the cost of a cinema ticket, a dinner out, or a taxi fare and it could change someone's life!
