Short Breaks Sensory Garden · 2 May 2019

In our 70th anniversary year, we are currently raising funds to develop our Newstart Hall, transforming it from the tired hall it is today, into the region’s Centre of Excellence for health and well-being for people with disabilities.

Story

On Short Breaks, we offer respite for individuals with a range of disabilities.

We have recently moved onto Elms and are re-decorating the environment to suit our citizens needs. So far we have managed to start our sensory room which is a big hit! So now it is time to move outside and do our garden. Currently, our garden is a large square patch of grass in the centre of our residence. We would like to fill this with scented flowers, water features, lights, shelter and things to touch and play.

Having a sensory garden will provide our citizens with a place to relax, socialise and to meet their sensory needs. Individuals can promote their independence and learn new skills by looking after the garden.

Here is what a few of our citizens have said:

Luke- "It would be good and relaxing to have a sensory garden. I would like a fountain or water feature."

Matthew- "It would be nice to see something in the garden and somewhere to go to have my own space."

Leah- "I love the sensory room and I can't wait to have a sensory garden to smell all the flowers."

Please donate to our good cause and help us to make a difference in someones life.
