Story
We are raising money for The Sick Children's Trust, a charity that enables parents of premature and sick children to stay on sight at various hospitals around the country.
Me and my partner Kerry have been lucky enough to have the support of this great charity during the first few months of our twin daughters lives. Born 14 weeks premature and weighing 1lb 12oz and 1lb 6oz respectively, Amber and Megan came into the world much earlier than we had expected.
Having the support of Chestnut House - one of the ten houses provided by The Sick Children's Trust, helped us to come to terms with what had happened and the staff used their experience of similar situations to comfort us and keep us feeling as positive as possible.
After 8 weeks in Chestnut House our daughters were considered well enough for us to be encouraged to spend nights back at home in preparation for them coming home in the near future.
After 17 weeks, including 2 operations each and 4 hospital transfer journeys from Chelmsford to Cambridge Amber and Megan were finally ready to come home.
Thanks to the dedication of all the staff in the NICU units in both Cambridge and Chelmsford, and the support of everyone at Chestnut House with the backing of The Sick Children's Trust, we have the chance to be parents to two beautiful girls that we thought we may not get.
