Hey Everyone...
As some of u are now aware... We are taking part in "Project South Africa - March 2010" to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK and would really welcome yr support.
The trip has 2 objectives... Firstly to raise funds for Cancer Research (this particular project is to raise awareness to help tackle bowel cancer). Secondly to renovate a remote village school in South Africa. We are aiming to raise a minimum of £4,000 each.
This is where "YOU"... "our friends" can also help...We might be the one that's going, but we can't do this alone and we need YOU ALL to support us.... read Sid's story and u will understand "how we will ALL be DIRECTLY involved"...
MY ROAD TO CANCER... (by Sid)
My 1st real interaction of the 'BIG C' (Cancer) was when my cricketing hero Imran Khan opened up Pakistan's first Cancer Hospital (which aimed to provide FREE Cancer Medical Treatment for the poor). In 1992, Imran set up his charity called 'Imran's Tigers' and u can bet I was one of the 1st to join up !!!... Then, I went one step further and worked once a week as a volunteer at Imran Khan's London based Cancer Office in Kensington. A few years later, I was privileged enough to visit The Cancer Hospital in Pakistan, which opened in December 1994.
When I first laid eyes on the Hospital, I thought to myself 'that's nice' and then as I took my 1st step inside... "BANG" it hit me... "WOW"... I helped build this place...ok I didn't put my Bob the Builders outfit on and physically lay the bricks etc...(my contribution might be the equivalent of "a drop in the ocean")... but so be it !!!... I played my part however big or small and today as the Hospital continues to provide Cancer treatment and save lives... I can proudly say " I'M A PART OF IT " !!!... (17 years later, i am still actively involved and "doing my little bit ").
U see, this is how YOU guys can also play a VERY big part in Project S.Africa. You don't have to physically go to South Africa, but by donating and helping raise awareness of Cancer... you have contributed massively and once the school has been renovated... you can pat yrselves on the back and proudly say "I'M A PART OF IT" because WITHOUT YR HELP... it could NOT have happened. !!!
Many of us have been directly or indirectly affected by Cancer. Many of us have lost a loved one through Cancer. Some of us are fortunate enough to have received treatment in time and are now on the mend... Cancer can affect anyone (young or old) at any time... You don't have to have had Cancer to help... U don't need to know someone that's had cancer to help... U DON'T NEED A REASON/STORY/EXPERIENCE TO HELP...so whatever the circumstances... it's very important to continue the Research!!!
Heres a video of a similar Project that took place in 2008 and shows the kind of stuff that we will be doing... including sleeping in a tent for 11 nights (God help this village if we see a creepy crawley) !!! Omg... just realised no facebook and no mobile phones either... this challenge is even harder than we thought-lolzzzz!!! http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/bobbymoorefund/getinvolved/events/projectsouthafrica/
So there u go... 'TOGETHER...LET'S DO THIS!'. xxx
Best Wishes
Sid (Salina)
