Story
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a fatal condition that affects 5000 people in the UK at any one time. It weakens and wastes the muscles resulting in loss of mobility, speech, difficulties swallowing, and ultimately, breathing. Half of those diagnosed with MND die within 14 months of diagnosis.
The MND Association's latest campaign, Silence Speaks, aims to raise awareness of the difficulties people with MND face when they lose their voice, and just how important it is that they have timely access to the communication aids that they need.
The money raised will go towards to the West London & Middlesex branch, and will be used to give people living with MND a better quality of life - by helping with the purchase of much-needed equipment, such as communication aids, bio-bidets and stairlifts, by assisting with the costs of home modification and respite care and by helping with transport costs. We also contribute towards the cost of vital research into the causes and treatment of MND. The Branch supports people with MND, their carers and families through its network of fully trained Association Visitors, open meetings and a carer support group.
