Transplant Sport is a registered charity whose main aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation. We organise sports and social events for transplant recipients to improve health and well being whilst actively promoting organ donation.

Story

I am riding 150 miles from London to Weymouth with Scott Luboff and Christopher Ray from the 12th April to the 14th April to raise money for TSUK because 19 years ago I had a kidney transplant that was donated to me from a family at a time of grief. This gift of life as allowed me to live a normal life, compete in sport and do other things that I could not when I was on dialysis.

My need for a transplant came around after the first 10 years of my life, I was born with fully functioning kidneys but 10 years of reflux damaged my kidneys beyond repair. I then spent the next 4 years on renal dialysis waiting for a transplant.  2 calls for a transplant with trips to London that ended up as false alarms before the call on the 9 December 1993 a 3rd trip to London and finally had this transplant in the early hours of the 10th.

Alomost every year since I have competed in the British Transplant Games which is an arena for all transplant recipients to compete in sports that they wouldn’t be able to without the transplants. This happens in different parts of the country each year and one of the major reasons for this is to highlight the need for more people to be on the donor register and what a difference this makes for all recipients and their families.

This year I have been selected to compete in the world transplant games in Durban (South Africa) in 2013 to help raise awareness for the need of donors around the world and how this gift of life can change peoples’ life’s.

To be able to compete I need to raise £2000 to pay for flights and accommodation for the week of competing any money I raise over this amount will go to the team management and support who give up their time to help organise and run the team.
