Story
So the big one is nearly upon me. The last 6 months have been dedicated to following a strict training and dietary plan. I've spend most free hours compiling spreadsheets of the lightest equipment and the food which packs the most calories per gram.
In 1 weeks time I'll be heading to the Sahara to compete in what has been described as the toughest foot race on earth. 250km running/walking/crawling through the Sahara desert over 6 days carrying around 8kg of all my food and equipment for the week. It'll be tough thats for sure, with the longest day being around 50miles and all terrains being covered including dunes, mountains and dried river beds. The only thing supplied by the organisers is water and a tent shared with 7 other nutters. Add into that temperatures of up to 40 degrees, I'm sure you'll agree its worthy of putting your hand in your pocket for a good cause.
I chose Macmillan for no other reason than it seems many people in my life have recently been affected by cancer. When you hear stories of people passing on at a young age and leaving behind young families it puts into focus what's really important in life. My pain and suffering will only last 6 days then I'll be able to put my feet up, relax and enjoy a cold beer. Unfortunately not everyone is as lucky as me.
