On 20th November 2021 I will be running the Wooler Trail Marathon. This race starts and finishes in the Northumberland town of Wooler, and the race route covers over 28 miles and 6000 feet of climbing over the moors between England and Scotland. Mud, ice, rain and snow are all a distinct possibility, and I may well have to contend with all four!
I am doing this in aid of Quinn's Retreat, a charity which offers a retreat for those bereaved by suicide.
Quinn's Retreat was founded by Tracey and Dave Beadle after the death of their 17 year old daughter Quinn. Sadly on 9th December 2018 Quinn took her own life. Following this her family decided to make the area where they lost her into a small memorial garden. They decided to fund-raise to buy a bench and to tidy up the area, and raised far more in one day that they could have ever expected.
Shortly afterwards Quinn's family went away for a break to try to come to terms with what had happened, and whilst they were away they decided to help other families who have suffered a bereavement through suicide to do the same, and so the idea of Quinn’s Retreat was born.
Sadly just ten months later on 8th October 2019 they also lost Dyllon to suicide, he was only 21, he was amazing but he just couldn’t carry the burden of grief on his shoulders any longer. Tracey and Dave had already started the ball rolling to become a registered charity and by January 2020 they became an official Charity registered with the Charity Commission. In February 2020 the charity bought it's very first caravan, named “Quinn’s Retreat”.
