Story
A
three-year project with PERFORM and Plan International to use sports to give
marginalised children in India a better chance to fulfil their potential in
life.
Starting in 2013, PERFORM is providing support – funding, fundraising and
in-kind advertising – to set up a series of initiatives across India to promote
sports for all children. By tapping into children’s love of sports, we can also
equip them with vital knowledge and life skills to be able to make informed,
independent decisions about their lives, such as the importance of hygiene, the
right to play, to promote inclusion and encourage them to access and complete
their education.
We are now just over 18 months into the programme and the amount of activity at our chosen sites is impressive. Sixteen sites have been established or are in the process of setting up, with more than 3,200 children involved. During our first annual visit last November the team heard many stories of how the work was both uniting communities (such as landowners donating plots for the playing fields to be established) and giving children some amazing opportunities – one boy has been spotted by talent scouts and asked, because of his sporting ability, to attend the district’s government sports school.
To hear more and see firsthand how the money we are raising is helping the children please watch our video from the visit: http://youtu.be/GfuNWugBssc.
Following
up on all the great work from our staff last year and so far this year to raise
money for this amazing project a small crew is gathering for the
ultimate UK mountain challenge next month.
On June 8th and 9th Ashley Milton, Paul Chesworth, Ed Breeze, Joe Markowski
and myself will attempt to climb and descend the highest mountains in
Scotland, England and Wales… In 24 hours.
Our
aim is to push ourselves to the limit, break the world record for energy bar
consumption, raise as much money as possible for Playing Fields in India and do
our bit to re-unite our fine Kingdom in a somewhat lively political divided
environment. Please
donate generously.
Thank you,
Simon
